Monthly rentals & long stays in Japan
There's no rush.
Why see Japan in a hurry?
Keep a base, keep up with what you must remotely, and give the country the time it actually takes — the trails, the castles, the slow mornings.
For the curious explorer, a longer stay means more than more places. It means more chances to discover Japan on your own terms.
How
Keep a base.
You don't have to pack up every few days. Keep your things here, settle into the neighbourhood, and explore Japan from a place that feels like home.
Where
Go where you want.
Tokyo is your base. Japan is your playground.
With airports, Shinkansen, and rail connections stretching across the country, you can explore far beyond the city — without giving up the comfort of having a place to come back to.
For the explorer, that's the freedom of staying longer.
Tokyo today.
The mountains tomorrow.
Somewhere completely different next week.
Go. Explore. Come back. Repeat.
The places
Which place, and the shortest stay
- Okushibu Residence
- Shibuya, Tokyo — booked direct as one month or longer (shorter stays via Airbnb) · details
- Atami Tenkai Villa
- Atami, Shizuoka — no minimum — a few nights or a few months · details
- Chigasaki Southern Beach
- Chigasaki, Kanagawa — no minimum — a few nights or a few months · details
The Shibuya flat is a home, not a hotel room, so a direct booking there is a short lease. Atami and Chigasaki are run as guest houses, so any length is fine.
How it works
Booking a month or more
Shibuya (one month or longer). You sign a short fixed-term lease — an English contract you can sign online, nothing to visit a bank for. There's no daily housekeeping; in return the rate is monthly rather than nightly.
Atami and Chigasaki. A normal reservation, just a long one. The longer you book, the lower the nightly rate.
The steps are the same either way:
- Tell us the place, your dates and how many of you (get in touch).
- We check the calendar and send back what's free and what it costs.
- You confirm with a deposit, and settle the rest before you arrive.
Cost
What it costs
Weekly and monthly rates are available, and the longer you stay the lower the nightly rate. Rates change with the season, so live pricing sits with each property and in a quote for your dates — not on this page.
One rate covers everything — Wi-Fi, utilities, bed linen and the cleaning. No key money, no guarantor, no agency fee. Add-ons are few and listed on each property page — a pet fee, and an extra-guest fee at Atami and Chigasaki.
Settling in
The everyday things
Wi-Fi is in every place and there's a washer-dryer to use. Before you arrive we send the local details — bin days, the nearest coin laundry, where to pick up a SIM, the supermarket — and once you're in, we're a message away. It's a small operation; you deal with the same person the whole time.
All three
Move between them
You can string the three together — a month in Shibuya, a fortnight by the sea in Chigasaki, a week up at Atami. Tell us what you have in mind and we'll work out the dates.
Come light
Leave your suitcase
A pack, boots and a tent can wait in your room for the length of your stay — so you can fly in with a normal suitcase and still walk out for a few days on the trail. With time to spare, you can wait for a clear window and climb Mt Fuji. What we keep for you →
